Multiple fire engines respond to fire on Chilliwack Lake Road Thursday

**UPDATE at 6:25 p.m.: According to scanner traffic, another fire has broken out just east of the property in the 46100 block of Chilliwack Lake Road. Chilliwack River Valley Fire Department has been paged to assist. The fire has now spread to the nearby mountains rapidly.**

**UPDATE at 6:45 p.m.: A resident in Promontory in the 46000 block of Bridle Ridge Crescent reports there are three Chilliwack Fire Department trucks on her street. Firefighters on Bridle Ridge Crescent have tapped into a fire hydrant on the street and are attempting to fight the fire on the hillside above Chilliwack Lake Road.**

**UPDATE at 6:50 p.m.: BC Wildfire Service has been paged to assist.**

**UPDATE at 6:55 p.m.: A resident on Promontory says a Chilliwack firefighter has told her the fire is 70×70 and is 2/3 of the way up the slope above Chilliwack Lake Road.**

**UPDATE at 7:20 p.m.: The City of Chilliwack has released the following statement: “The Chilliwack Fire Department and BC Wildfire Service are responding to a report of a wildfire at the 46100 block of Chilliwack Lake Road. Crews are working to access the fire. Due to the smoke, residents in the area are advised to stay indoors and keep doors and windows closed. No evacuations are being considered at this time. Updates will be provided as information becomes available.”**

**UPDATE at 8:15 p.m.: The City of Chilliwack says it appears the fire is no longer growing in size. The Chilliwack Fire Department and BC Wildfire Service ground crews continue to contain this fire from the ground. CHILLIWACK — Multiple fire engines have responded to a fire on Chilliwack Lake Road that produced massive plumes of thick smoke above Promontory and the Chilliwack River Valley.

Engine 1, 4, 4-2, Ladder 4, Tender 4, and at least four other engines responded to property just east of 46120 Chilliwack Lake Road at about 5:15 p.m. Thursday where a large-scale fire broke out. Smoke could be seen billowing into the sky from viewpoints in Promontory, Sardis, Yarrow, and Cultus Lake.

The property appears to be within Soowahlie First Nation, or right next to the perimeter of the First Nation reserve.

Chilliwack River Valley Fire Department had offered mutual aid to responding firefighters from the Chilliwack Fire Department.

The fire continued to burn not only along Chilliwack Lake Road, but also farther north away from the roadway. It eventually spread and sparked additional fires.

Fraser Valley Today has reached out to the Chilliwack Fire Department and RCMP for comment.
