Beginner pump tracks coming to two Chilliwack parks
CHILLIWACK — The City of Chilliwack says two new beginner pump tracks are coming to Chilliwack and should be completed by the end of 2023.
According to a post on Facebook Thursday (July 20), beginner pump tracks will be built in Vedder Park in Sardis and in Jinkerson Park up in Promontory.
Chilliwack city council approved a request for proposal contract at its meeting on Tuesday, July 18 that would have Velosolutions Canada West Ltd. design and build two pump tracks at a cost of $499,392.77.
According to a staff report by Richard Fortin, parks planning manager for the city of Chilliwack, the city’s primary pump track facility was established in 2020, featuring two tracks that were tailored to intermediate and advanced skill levels. The staff report boasted that the facility has achieved “remarkable success by attracting a diverse range of users and skill levels, not only from the local community but also from around the globe.” The success of the main track highlighted what the city says was a need for beginner-level skill development and training areas.
