CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack residents who utilize the weight room and gymnasium at the Cheam Leisure Centre in Garrison will have to find another venue for fitness and physical activity later this month and in early August.

The Cheam Leisure Centre, operated by the YMCA BC in partnership with the City of Chilliwack, wrote on Facebook last week that its gym and weight room will be closed from Monday, July 24 through Monday, August 7 due to scheduled maintenance.

The gym and weight room will reopen on Tuesday, August 8.

“Please see the front desk staff if you have any questions about your membership. Our Aquatics area will remain open,” Cheam Leisure Centre wrote on Facebook. “Due to scheduled maintenance in our gymnasium and weight room, there will be no registered and drop-in classes during this time.”

The YMCA plans to upgrade facility lighting and resurface the floor.

The pool, also known as its aquatics centre, will remain open and unaffected by the scheduled maintenance of the gym and weight room.

The YMCA recently announced that teens could use the Cheam Leisure Centre for free, after 4 p.m., on Wednesday and Friday during the summer, or Tuesday and Thursday after 4 p.m. at the Chilliwack Landing Leisure Centre.
