Chilliwack first responders respond after fisherman falls down embankment

CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack first responders were reportedly dispatched sometime around 6:15 a.m. Tuesday morning (July 11) after a 73-year-old fisherman reportedly fell 10 feet down an embankment in the Chilliwack River Valley.

According to scanner traffic, rescue personnel from the Chilliwack River Valley Fire Department and Chilliwack Search and Rescue were deployed to an area west of the Chilliwack River Hatchery, 55205 Chilliwack Lake Road, for the report of a man who fell about 10 feet down an embankment and required medical attention.

Two engines were dispatched from the CRVFD.

The exact area on Google Maps where first responders were summoned is the Slesse Creek climbing area.

The victim could be seen stabilized on a stretcher device on the ground surrounded by two to three rescue personnel, of which one person may have been rendering medical aid to him, around 7:20 a.m. on the north side of Chilliwack Lake Road, less than 20 metres from the rushing waters of the Chilliwack River.

One Chilliwack Search and Rescue truck was on scene parked on the north side of Chilliwack Lake Road.

Rescue crews remained with the victim until ambulance arrived on scene.

There were at least five fishermen along the Vedder River in the vicinity where the man fell in what appears to be a popular fishing venue.

The patient was left in care of B.C. Emergency Health Services at 8:09 a.m., according to Chilliwack resident Julie Hiscock, who regularly monitors scanner traffic.
