BC Highway Patrol impounds three Porsches, including two after drivers clocked at nearly 200 km/h
SQUAMISH — The need for speed has left three Porsche drivers from the Lower Mainland with three-month driving suspensions and a need for alternate transportation.
According to a news release from provincial highway authorities, an officer with the B.C. Highway Patrol Squamish division was conducting speed enforcement in the area of the Porteau Cove overpass on the northbound Sea to Sky Highway in Squamish on Friday, June 30, just before Canada Day, at approximately 8 p.m.
The officer observed three Porsche cars approaching his position at a very high rate of speed and determined that the first two vehicles were traveling at a speed of 195 kilometres an hour (121 miles per hour), followed by the third Porsche traveling at 146 km/hr. The posted speed limit on this stretch of the provincial highway is 80 km/hr.
The officer managed to have all three drivers pull over at a safe location, where their vehicles were promptly impounded for one week, according to Corporal Mike Moore, media relations spokesman for the BC Highway Patrol.
