The generous donation enables Cultus Lake Fire to buy 14 wetsuits and an AquaEye. Each wetsuit comes fully equipped for cold water dives, including boots, hoods, and flippers. The AquaEye is a handheld sonar device making it possible for members to identify individuals and objects below the water’s surface. The device can scan one acre of water in under two minutes.

CHILLIWACK — The Cultus Lake Fire Department received a substantial donation of approximately $21,000 recently from the Chilliwack Dogwood Monarch Lions Club that enabled them to purchase necessary equipment to aid them in their fire response efforts.

Cultus Lake Fire Chief Warren Mazuren was joined by members of the Cultus Lake Fire Department to celebrate a large monetary donation from the Chilliwack Dogwood Monarch Lions Club totaling approximately $21,000, according to a Facebook post last week from Cultus Lake Fire.

The fire department has been the recipient of multiple donations from the Lions Club over the years, enabling them to purchase equipment to aid in the members’ ability to save lives.

Thanks to the magnanimous donation from the Chilliwack Dogwood Monarch Lions Club, Cultus Lake Fire was able to purchase 14 wetsuits and an AquaEye. Each wetsuit comes fully equipped for cold water dives, including boots, hoods, and flippers. The AquaEye is a handheld sonar device making it possible for members to identify individuals and objects below the water’s surface. The device can scan one acre of water in under two minutes.

The department welcomed six members of the Lions Club to the hall, thanking them for their generous donation and continued support. The department shared stories of how equipment purchased with Lions Club donations has assisted in multiple rescues and lives rescued throughout the years.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the Lions Club says it has seen an exponential increase in attendance for bingo, making it possible for the club to give back to their community in a larger way. About 60 per cent of all ticket sales go to prizes and the remaining 40 per cent goes directly to a deserving community organization or cause.

During the ceremony, the Lions Club members extended their gratitude to the Cultus Lake Fire Department. They highlighted each member’s dedication to volunteering their time to keep the community safe.
