CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack RCMP are currently investigating a residential break and enter involving theft that occurred in the 46600 block of First Avenue in the early morning hours of Friday, June 30.

Three suspects under the age of 18 are believed to be responsible for the crimes.

Fraser Valley Today has learned the incident occurred close to the entrance of a multi-unit housing complex at 46689 First Avenue, Mount Baker Estates. It is not known whether the burglarized residence was targeted or simply a random criminal act.

In a statement released Monday (July 3), Sgt. Krista Vrolyk, media relations spokesperson for the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment, says Mounties are actively investigating a break and enter and theft from a residence on First Avenue.

“Police have seized CCTV footage as part of this investigation and have identified those captured in this footage,” Sgt. Vrolyk said. “This matter remains an active investigation.”

When asked what the consequences might be for these underage suspects, Sgt. Vrolyk advised, “The manner in which we deal with youth depends on many factors and is case-specific; so, it is up to the investigator based on a totality of the circumstances to determine how to proceed (whether criminal charges are recommended or whether it is referred to Restorative Justice),” Sgt. Vrolyk wrote in an email.

The three youths allegedly stole quite a few items during the break and enter. However, it is not known exactly what they allegedly stole.
