DELTA — A Chilliwack man’s crime spree in Delta didn’t go exactly the way he planned things.

On Tuesday, June 20, at approximately 8:35 p.m., the Delta Police Department responded to a break and enter in progress in Tsawwassen.

According to a statement from the Delta PD, a reporting party heard a noise and when she investigated, she challenged an unknown man inside her home. The suspect fled and police were called. The complainant was not harmed by the suspect.

Officers attended the area and deployed a police dog which located the suspect hiding in a nearby residence under construction. The suspect was arrested without incident.

Michael Hilsabeck, a 33-year-old man from Chilliwack, has been charged with three counts of break and enter, and one count of theft under $5,000.

It is not known if Hilsabeck is still in custody, or has been released as is often the case in B.C. The Delta PD news release did not indicate as such.

Hilsabeck had been released from custody on June 16, following an unrelated breach of undertaking conviction.

The DPD thanks its partners from the Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Service for their assistance in this investigation.
