Chilliwack River Valley FireSmart Day this Saturday, BBQ by donation
CHILLIWACK — Simple tips like mowing your lawn, cleaning your gutters, or storing combustibles at least 10 metres away from your home are just a few of the ways that homeowners can reduce the likelihood of a wildfire spreading on their property.
The Chilliwack River Valley Fire Department will host a community event designed to raise awareness about the FireSmart program this Saturday, June 24 at Thompson Regional Park, 48600 Chilliwack Lake Road, across from the fire hall.
Chilliwack River Valley Fire Department Chief Mike Danyluk says the event aims to equip homeowners with practical tips on to protect their property from wildfire.
The three-hour event gets underway at 11 a.m. and will feature a BBQ by donation, lots for homeowners to see, and kids activities to boot. There will be fire trucks and sprinkler demonstrations, FireSmart info displays and swag, and more.
