CHILLIWACK — The City of Chilliwack isn’t the only government agency that won’t be shooting off fireworks in the upcoming weeks.

The Cultus Lake Park Board community events and engagement committee has made the difficult decision to cancel the fireworks that was scheduled for this Saturday’s Cultus Lake Day celebration on June 24, according to a Facebook post from Cultus Lake Park.

The park board had received an exemption from the Ministry of Forests authorizing the approval for the fireworks display during the current fire ban.

“The Board and committee are committed to ensuring events are not just fun but are safe for Cultus Lake Park and surrounding areas,” Cultus Lake Park wrote on Facebook Tuesday, June 20. “Considering the current climate and multiple wildfires across Canada, it has been decided that the fireworks show would be better suited for a future event when it is safer to do so.”
