Government changes curb out of province purchases of diabetes drug

Jun 17, 2023 | 9:00 AM

VANCOUVER — The number of B-C’s online prescriptions for the diabetes drug Ozempic filled by Americans have fallen by 99 per cent after the province introduced laws restricting foreign sales in April.

The B-C Health Ministry says 30-thousand-seven-hundred prescriptions for the injectable medication were mailed to the United States from Jan. 1st to April 19th.

That number has fallen to one-hundred-and-eleven prescriptions shipped to American residents between April 20th and May 31st.

Health Minister Adrian Dix announced legislation on April 19th to prevent a shortage of the drug, which has weight loss as one of its side-effects. (The Canadian Press)
