Former Chilliwack teacher banned from teaching for 10 years due to misconduct
CHILLIWACK — A former Chilliwack School District teacher who first began teaching in SD33 in 1987 has received a 10-year ban on reapplying for a professional teaching certification in British Columbia.
In a consent resolution agreement released Tuesday (June 13), the B.C. Commissioner for Teacher Regulation issued a 10-year ban to Erik Rickard Leander Chadsey, who taught high school students, following an investigation that found he violated professional teaching expectations on multiple occasions.
Chadsey’s teaching certificate went into effect in 1987 and continued until he relinquished his certificate of qualification in April 2021.
Between 2017 and 2019, Chadsey would ask his class a “question of the day” that was meant to stimulate discussion. Two of his questions led to discussion about first kisses and breaking up with a partner. The report from the teacher regulation branch found that one student went into detail about sexual encounters. Chadsey did nothing to stop this student from sharing this intimate information with peers and would sometimes ask students to elaborate on the stories they told.
