CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack-area volunteers have united behind a concerted effort to find Rosie, a Jindo mix pup from Korea who arrived in Chilliwack in April, but escaped around April 24 and has been on the run for over 50 days.

Rosie was last spotted on Sunday, June 11 near Broadway and Brooks Avenue north of the highway.

“We have trap food and have some social media skills, but in the end we’re not Al [Maclellan] from Pet Searchers,” said Smith, who pitched in to help locate Ford, a missing dog who was located in the Chilliwack River Valley last month.

Al Maclellan is a widely touted expert from Petsearchers Canada who has over 30 years experience training hounds and humane live trapping, but his services come with a cost.

“To get this Jindo mix pup all the way from Korea caught, we will need to fundraise enough to get Al [Maclellan] out here. Even if it’s just a few dollars, it will all help to get Rosie into a nice warm bed so she can feel the love these strangers wish so badly for. Koastal Dog Rescue is joining us in our fundraising efforts to get Al back out here.”

Earlier this month on June 8, a group formed to organize all the moving parts involved in finding Rosie. About nine women assembled, including some from last year’s search to locate a German Shepherd dog named Dustan, and some from the operation to find Ford. Social media pages in Chilliwack and the Fraser Valley have been inundated with urgent appeals to the public to help find Rosie.

“We had one goal in mind: let’s get Rosie,” Smith said. “She has been on our streets popping out mainly at dusk and dawn, so it’s super hard for us to get sightings.”

The Rescue Rosie fund ran short of money, meaning the ad hoc group could not utilize the valuable services offered by Petsearchers Canada.

A GoFundMe was launched late Wednesday night (June 13) to help support the Rescue Rosie efforts. As of Thursday morning, it had already garnered $840 from 13 donations towards a stated goal of $1,500, although monetary goals are often increased once the goal is nearly attained.

In the meantime, anyone who sees Rosie is asked to simply call or text 604-701-1087.
