CHILLIWACK — Playing a game of pickleball can sure work up a sweat in any setting or environment, let alone being outdoors in Chilliwack as one of the warmest places in Canada.

That’s why an announcement from the Chilliwack Curling Club this past week that it will offer air-conditioned pickleball comfort is welcome news for the hundreds of pickleball players in Chilliwack, adding another venue for the growing number of pickleball enthusiasts.

“Just in time for the heat, air-conditioned pickleball comfort,” blared the headline from a Chilliwack Curling Club post on Wednesday, June 1. “We have 3 courts and 5 more will be added soon in our air-conditioned ice shed. Come and play the fastest growing sport in the world without bothering your neighbours with the noise.”

The Curling Club invites pickleball fanatics, or casual drop-in types, to visit its website (www.curlchilliwack.org), click on the pickleball drop down menu, fill in the details and e-transfer your payment.

“You are good to go. Please ensure you stop and sign a waiver at the pro shop before your first game,” the Curling Club stated on Facebook.

Prices are $3/player per hour or $5/player for two hours. Available times are 8:30 a.m. to noon, as well as 4:30-8 p.m., Monday to Friday.

The 9th End Cafe is open 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the Extra End Lounge will be open with cold beers for players’ post-game evening matches.

If the demand is there, the Curling Club will expand hours longer into the day and into the weekends. The Chilliwack Curling Club is located at 45550 Spadina Avenue.
