CHILLIWACK — A motorcyclist was detained by Chilliwack RCMP officers Saturday afternoon after he allegedly caused an accident on Chilliwack Lake Road and fled the scene, only to be captured and arrested less than an hour later.

The Chilliwack River Valley Fire Department was dispatched Saturday afternoon at approximately 4:45 p.m. for the report of a truck that had gone into a ditch on Chilliwack Lake Road, and a motorcyclist possibly responsible for that crash had allegedly left the scene.

Chilliwack River Valley Fire Department had taped off the truck, located near Auchenway Road and Chilliwack Lake Road, until RCMP officers were able to deal with it.

Not long after, Chilliwack first responders received information about an accident involving a motorcycle in the 45000 block of Vedder Mountain Road, not far from Qoqolem Park (45076 Vedder Mountain Road). First responders responded to the area.

A Fraser Valley Today reporter drove by the scene and witnessed approximately six RCMP officers standing on the south side of Vedder Mountain Road near a Caucasian male who was handcuffed at 5:14 p.m. Saturday. The detained Caucasian male was about 21-25 years old, with light auburn or brown hair, and a slim build, with a height of about 5’9″. He appeared to be disheveled facing northbound as he stood handcuffed near an RCMP vehicle on the south side of the road. He wore jeans and a shirt that appeared to be dirty.

His motorcycle could be seen with possible damage at about 5:14 p.m. on the north side of Chilliwack Lake Road.

Firefighters were directing traffic through the area as vehicular traffic began backing up both directions on Vedder Mountain Road.

An email has been sent to Chilliwack RCMP media relations seeking comment on the incident.
