Traffic stop in Popkum lands two guys in jail for warrants, coke, meth and fentanyl
POPKUM — While most people were still asleep, two guys inside a vehicle in the middle of the night near the Popkum roundabout last week were up to no good.
On Friday, May 19, at 3:50 a.m., an Agassiz RCMP member initiated a traffic stop in the area of the Popkum roundabout, where Esso and Tim Hortons are located. Two men were observed in the vehicle and both were found to have outstanding warrants for their arrest, according to a statement from Sgt. Mike Sargeant of the Agassiz RCMP detachment.
Both men were taken into custody. A subsequent search of the vehicle produced varied quantities of illicit drugs including fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine, GHB and various prescription pills, all of which were likely destined to be sold locally. The investigation into the trafficking of the drugs remains ongoing.
“Proactive enforcement such as this goes along way in disrupting criminal activities and reducing the flow of illegal and toxic drugs into our local communities,” said Sgt. Sargent of the Agassiz RCMP.
