Abbotsford police Drug Enforcement Unit collaborates with multiple agencies to dismantle drug operation in Fraser Valley
ABBOTSFORD — The Abbotsford Police Department’s Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) has announced the successful conclusion of its investigation codenamed “Project Toro.” The operation, which began in 2022, identified a 42-year-old man involved in the illicit drug trade within the Abbotsford area, with alleged links to the BC Gang Conflict. The collaborative effort involved the AbbyPD Crime Reduction Unit (CRU), the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of BC (CFSEU), and the Integrated Emergency Response Team (IERT).
Months of investigative work culminated in the execution of multiple search warrants in Abbotsford, Burnaby, and Chilliwack. As a result, law enforcement authorities were allegedly able to seize a substantial quantity of drugs and firearms, significantly disrupting the illegal activities associated with the drug trade.
A total of 5.5 kilograms of illicit substances, including Fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine, were confiscated during the operation. The drugs pose a threat to public health and safety, and their removal from the streets marked a victory in the ongoing battle against drug trafficking. In addition to the drugs, over $84,000 in cash was seized, along with sixteen firearms which included prohibited and restricted devices.
On April 26 investigators arrested two individuals in connection with Project Toro. Khamidi Ferdinand, a 42-year-old resident of Abbotsford, and Constance Vince, a 64-year-old Abbotsford resident, now face multiple charges, including Trafficking a Controlled Substance, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, Weapons Trafficking, and Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition. Both are in custody pending their next bail hearing.
