Summer-like temperatures expected soon through the Fraser Valley

CHILLIWACK — It’s been a long time coming but warmer, even hot temperatures are expected to arrive late this week through the Fraser Valley.

According to Environment Canada, temperatures in the Fraser Valley will begin the week several degrees below normal. But by the time weekend rolls around, residents in the region will be relying on air conditioning as highs climb well above normal.

A series of high-pressure systems are expected to begin moving across southern B.C. by mid-week, bringing warmer air and clear skies to the region. Environment Canada is predicting a high of 27 in the Fraser Valley Friday.

While it seems like good news for everyone, weather experts are quick to point out that the rapid warm-up will likely trigger a rapid snow melt, which could lead to high water levels in streams and creeks and even some localized flooding.
