Volunteers invited to clean up Thompson Park in Chilliwack Apr. 22 on Earth Day

CHILLIWACK — Families and individuals are invited to take a few hours out of their Saturday and clean up a neighbourhood park in the Chilliwack River Valley later this month, as well as parts of the Chilliwack River Valley and Vedder River corridor.

On Earth Day, volunteers with the Chilliwack/Vedder River Cleanup Society will hold their annual Spring River Cleanup at Thompson Regional Park, 48600 Chilliwack Lake Road, on Saturday, Apr. 22.

The cleanup is at Thompson Regional Park but covers the entire Chilliwack River Valley and Vedder River corridor.

Registration is open from 8:30-9:30 a.m. and volunteers with the society will be supplying garbage bags, gloves, and pick-up sticks. It asks volunteers to drop off all garbage at Thompson Regional Park no later than 1:30 p.m.

On its Facebook page, the Chilliwack/Vedder River Cleanup Society wrote, “We have a couple prizes to hand out thanks to the good folks at Banter Ice Cream, Chilliwack Dart & Tackle, and Pic Eco Refills. If you pre-register via email, you will receive an additional raffle ticket for prizes. Please email us your name, cell phone, and emergency contact name and phone number at info@cleanrivers.ca to pre-register.”

Valley Waste and Recycling has generously donated the bins for group cleanups.

The society is also looking for some hardy folks with 4×4 vehicles who don’t mind tackling some challenging terrain. Those individuals are asked to email the society at info@cleanrivers.ca.
