Cottonwood Centre says A&W now closed, food court vendors gone by end of April

CHILLIWACK — The days of food court vendors at the Cottonwood Centre mall in Chilliwack are quickly vanishing.

Mark Davis, general manager for PCI Warrington Management, confirmed in an email Thursday morning that A&W in the food court has now closed.

The four remaining vendors, including Chilli Thai, Big Orange, Ono’s Japan, and Fortune Star, will be closed at the end of this month, Davis said.

The food court had been a popular gathering spot for Chilliwack seniors to have coffee and fellowship with friends while watching CBC News headlines on two nearby TVs. In months past, seniors could be seen purchasing coffee at A&W or lining up for the cream of potato and bacon soup at 10 a.m. on weekday mornings at Cinnamon City cafe.

The food court is being removed to make way for a liquor store at Cottonwood.

Chilliwack City Council approved the issuance of a development permit at its meeting on Tuesday (Jan. 10) that would facilitate the construction of a new liquor store at the Cottonwood Centre mall.

As presented by staff at the meeting in January, the proposed liquor store at 45585 Luckakuck Way features a modern design with a variety of aesthetically pleasing materials and a compatible colour scheme, complemented by architectural coordination with the overall design and scale of the building, and on-site parking, maneuvering aisles, a loading area, and a vehicle entrance that meets standards for two-way and singular directional flow around the shopping mall.
