Yarrow Farm Market introduces new market organizers

CHILLIWACK — After countless hours of dedication, investing, and working to maintain the Yarrow Farm Market as a community staple over the past seven years, Shannon Murphy has handed the primary organizing duties of the seasonal market over to Lyndsay and Aaron Edward ahead of the start of the 2023 season.

In a Facebook post earlier this week, Yarrow Farm Market paid tribute to the incredible work done by Murphy the past seven seasons.

“Shannon has done an amazing job growing the Yarrow Farm Market over the past 7 seasons, it is a project that she has poured her entire heart into with her family’s constant support and help!” the Facebook post stated. “As her three daughters are getting older, more involved with competitive sports, and she works full time at their school, life continues to keep busy for the Murphy family and that is where Shannon’s focus is… on her family!”

The Facebook post detailed how Murphy felt it was time to consider passing the baton to another family that had the time and passion for the market, while maintaining it as an essential component of the Yarrow community.

“She began thinking about letting it go but had it on her heart that if she were to, it would need to go to someone who would make it a priority and a family involved in Yarrow as she and her family have been,” the Facebook post read. “She wanted to know without a doubt it would continue on reaching its full potential for years to come!!”

As a result, Lyndsay and Aaron Edward have stepped forward as the new market organizers. They have six kids, one son-in-law, and one granddaughter. They moved to town in 2021.

“They both loved the idea of a small town where they could build community and continue to raise their children,” the Facebook post read. “Since arriving in Yarrow their feet hit the ground running. They have had the privilege of being involved with Yarrow Days and Aaron has since joined the Chilliwack Fire department and as of April will have completed his training and be on call in Yarrow.”

Aaron operates Edward Home Services, and has had plenty of opportunities to get to know people within the community through their continuous support. Lyndsay runs a small bath and body business, Valley Fog Co, and many patrons will recognize her through the products she sold at the Yarrow Farm Market.

“She started selling her products at markets and soon found the Yarrow Farmers Market,” Yarrow Farm Market wrote on Facebook. “It has always been her favourite. Whether Lyndsay has a booth set up or they are just attending, the whole family loves atmosphere and community coming together Friday nights in Yarrow throughout the summer.”

Their shared goal in taking over the market is to continue building on the community tradition that already exists and maintain its grassroots appeal as a go-to destination on Friday nights.

“Yarrow Market has become something that families look forward to, come for dinner, shopping, and to create and build relationships within the community,” Yarrow Farm Market wrote on Facebook. “Their desire is to continue that sense of community and build on it, not just for their family but for everyone.”

Yarrow Farm Market says Lyndsay is already well connected to the broader community and has built relationships with them through the small business community.

“Lyndsay already knows many of the local vendors and [has] built relationships with them through the small business community,” the Facebook post stated. “She looks forward to continuing to build those relationships in a new way. Shannon has done an fantastic job running the market and following in her footsteps will be a challenge; Aaron and Lyndsay are up for the task. Their hope that with new energy and a fresh perspective they can continue on what Shannon has built and make it even better! Please be patient with them over the coming months as they learn the ropes!”

This year’s market kicks off on Friday, May 26. Each market features live local music, several food trucks, a local brewery and cidery along with multiple other vendors. It is located at 4390 Kehler Street in Yarrow and runs every Friday (with the exception of June 2 due to Yarrow Days) from 5 p.m. until dusk, through to September 1.
