Abbotsford Police arrest man for gun possession at Abbotsford hospital
ABBOTSFORD — The Abbotsford Police Department arrested a 50-year-old man late Monday night (Mar. 13) for possessing a gun at Abbotsford Regional Hospital while he was waiting in the emergency department as a patient.
In a statement from Sgt. Paul Walker, media relations spokesperson for the Abbotsford Police Department, patrol officers responded to Abbotsford Regional Hospital on Monday at 11:05 p.m. for the report of a patient seated in the waiting room of the emergency department believed to be possessing a firearm.
Sgt. Walker says an individual in the waiting room contacted hospital security after seeing the man drop a round of ammunition onto the floor, at which point hospital security contacted police providing updates to arriving police officers.
Patrol officers promptly entered the hospital and took the 50-year-old man, later identified as Jonathan MacDonald of Abbotsford, into custody without incident. A search of MacDonald revealed he possessed a firearm.
