CHILLIWACK — A 40-year-old Chilliwack man faces criminal charges after he stabbed a man near the 46200 block of Yale Road in downtown Chilliwack last week.

On Thursday, March 2, at approximately 10:20 p.m., multiple members of the Chilliwack RCMP responded to the area and located a man who had been stabbed, according to Corporal Martin Godard, an RCMP spokesperson who works in crime prevention and youth services.

Cpl. Godard says the victim was transported to hospital where he received care for non-life-threatening injuries.

A 40-year-old Chilliwack man was identified and arrested by Mounties. Cpl. Godard says an investigation has determined this was a targeted incident.

Charges are expected to be forwarded to the Crown for this incident.

Just prior to this stabbing incident last week, Cpl. Godard says RCMP officers were dispatched Thursday night at 10 p.m. to a report of shoplifting at a business located in Eagle Landing Plaza. RCMP did not identify the business, but social media reports indicate it may have been Walmart on Eagle Landing Parkway.

Cpl. Godard says initial reports indicated a male who was allegedly shoplifting displayed a weapon when confronted by business security. A 32-year-old Chilliwack man was taken into custody without incident, and the investigation is ongoing, Cpl. Godard said.

Charges are also expected to be forwarded to the Crown in this incident, Cpl. Godard said.
