Neufeld files campaign finance disclosure form late, but avoids being banned from the next election
CHILLIWACK — Former Chilliwack school board trustee Barry Neufeld has filed what could be his last campaign finance disclosure form following the October 2022 municipal election that saw him defeated.
Neufeld paid the late filing fee of $500 and submitted his completed campaign finance disclosure forms to Elections B.C. by the late filing deadline date, thereby avoiding a disqualification from running in the next election by the provincial election agency, according to Elections B.C.
Greg Nelmes, a fellow school board candidate in the fall 2022 election, was banned by Elections B.C. from running in the next school board campaign in 2026 after he failed to file his campaign paperwork by the late filing deadline.
According to a campaign finance disclosure form provided to Fraser Valley Today from Melanie Hull, a communications advisor with Elections B.C., Neufeld reported seven contributions of less than $100 for $418.50, $290 in anonymous contributions, and $4,278.28 in campaign contributions of $100 or more, for a total of $4,986.78 in contributions. He recorded 13 contributions from specific individuals in the $4,278.28 figure.
