Hwy. 1 closes overnight after car crash, hospitalizing driver and killing dog ejected from car
ABBOTSFORD — A vehicle crashed on Highway 1 westbound in Abbotsford late Thursday night (Feb. 16) after it left the highway and struck a B.C. Hydro pole, sending the male driver to hospital with life-threatening injuries and killing a dog that was ejected from the vehicle during the crash.
According to Sgt. Paul Walker, media relations spokesperson for the Abbotsford Police Department, patrol officers from the department responded to a single-vehicle collision along Highway 1 westbound near the Clearbrook Road (exit 87). On arrival, officers determined that the vehicle left the highway and struck a hydro pole, causing significant damage.
The crash closed Highway 1 westbound before Clearbrook for several hours. Highway 1 westbound reopened early Friday morning.
Two people occupied the vehicle, including a 23-year-old male driver and a 19-year-old female passenger. Both were transported to hospital, Sgt. Walker said. The male driver is suffering from serious life-threatening injuries, while the female sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
