Realtor Brad Latham to become the youngest president of Chilliwack and District Real Estate Board

CHILLIWACK — In a household with a dad as a realtor, a mom who was a rental manager, and a sister who worked as a property manager, Brad Latham learned a lot about the ins and outs of the housing business.

By the time he was 22 years old, Brad caught the real estate bug by joining his dad Steve in the real estate industry in 2013, at which point he never looked back.

After 10 years as a realtor, including the past eight years in Chilliwack, Brad is set to become the youngest president of the Chilliwack and District Real Estate Board. He’ll take the helm when the AGM of CADREB is held later in February.

“I wanted to learn more about the behind-the-scenes of real estate and the board,” said Latham. “After being nominated by a colleague to be a part of the board of directors, I ran my campaign and was elected. I enjoyed my time on the board. I then put my name forward to run for 2023 CADREB president to further my journey into the world of real estate.”

After earning the selection, Latham spent part of 2022 as president-elect learning the ins and outs of the job. He acknowledges that the COVID-19 years have had an impact on the real estate community.

“What I’d like to see during my year as president is something the board of directors has been working on, [and that is] navigating a way to bring back more member engagement after the pandemic years,” said Latham, who is married with two daughters.

At the height of the real estate market boom in 2021 and early 2022, homes throughout Canada were sometimes sold without so much as a home inspection as multiple bidders sought to differentiate themselves and limit the number of subjects on their purchase.

Even though the market has cooled significantly, the B.C. government announced in mid-2022 new homebuyer protection measures that institute a mandatory 3-day period during which mortgage financing or home inspections can be secured and arranged. The homebuyer protection period is the first of its kind in Canada and went into effect on January 1, 2023.

As a result, Latham is mindful that the new regulations governing the real estate industry are sure to have an impact.

“I want members to know that we as a board are here to help and answer questions about the ever-changing rules and regulations in our industry, making sure everyone is comfortable knowing that we are only a phone call away,” Latham said.

Latham says he’d like to see CADREB maintain its ongoing commitment to charity work and the generosity that the real estate board already exhibits to improve Chilliwack altogether.

“The other important aspect of CADREB I’d like to see is the continuation of charity work and donations CADREB already does to better help the place we all call home,” Latham said. “It is going to be an exciting 2023. I feel like we have an amazing board of directors this year where we can make a real impact on improving what is already a fantastic real estate board.”
