CHILLIWACK — WorkSafeBC has levied a penalty of $88,348.85 for a repeated high-risk violation against a Chilliwack firm that operates a wood products manufacturing facility.

According to a news release from WorkSafeBC Friday (Feb. 10), W.I. Woodtone Industries Inc., received an $88,348.85 penalty after the provincial regulator found a violation at its Chilliwack work site. The hefty fine was imposed on January 24, 2023.

There is a Woodtone Industries facility located at 8007 Aitken Road, just north of Yale Road between Lickman Road and Evans Road, in Chilliwack.

WorkSafeBC said it inspected the worksite and observed a worker cleaning the nozzles on a pressurized paint machine that was not locked out. WorkSafeBC said the company failed to isolate and effectively control energy sources if the unexpected startup could cause injury. Regulators say this was a repeated high-risk violation.

Woodtone Industries is classified as a manufacturer with a classification unit of wood preserving.
