Two Chilliwack seniors die in car crash near Leavenworth, Washington
LEAVENWORTH, WASHINGTON — Two Chilliwack seniors who were traveling in Washington state Wednesday morning (Feb. 8) have died in a car crash just west of Leavenworth.
According to an incident report released by the Washington State Patrol, the incident happened about a mile outside of Leavenworth at about 8:40 a.m. Wednesday morning.
State troopers say a Honda CRV lost control while driving eastbound on State Route 2 and collided with a Toyota RAV4 SUV in the westbound lanes. According to the incident report, the 55-year-old driver of the Honda CRV lost control, crossed the centre line, and rotated counter clockwise, striking the RAV4. Both vehicles came to rest blocking westbound State Route 2.
Washington State Patrol reported that two passengers from Chilliwack, identified as 79-year-old Petar Kvenich and 75-year-old Maria Valkovich, died in the crash. They were passengers in the Honda CRV. Their seat belts were on at the time of the crash. The cause of the collision was speeding too fast for conditions, state troopers said. The driver of the Honda CRV, a 55-year-old woman from Delta, B.C., was transported to hospital. She was named in the report, but Fraser Valley Today is not identifying her.
