Farmhouse Brewing looks to expand liquor license operating hours

CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack City Council will review a request this week from Farmhouse Brewing Co. to extend its operating hours from 50 hours to 69 hours a week open six days a week.

Item 7.6 on Tuesday’s council meeting agenda asks councillors to review a request by the popular brewery and restaurant, located at 6385 Lickman Road, to extend its liquor license hours.

Farmhouse is currently open noon to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and noon to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, closed Sundays.

Farmhouse would like to increase its operating hours to 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.

In addition to the proposed hours listed above, a staff report from Jennifer Hahn, director of corporate services for the City of Chilliwack, says the brewery’s proposed hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday. That staff report can be found here: https://pub-chilliwack.escribemeetings.com/filestream.ashx?DocumentId=5452

Farmhouse Brewing has since clarified by saying that it would remain closed on Sunday.

The current occupant loads of 60 people for the indoor premises and 85 people for the outdoor grounds will remain unchanged, according to a city staff report.

If councillors receive the proposed change to hours for liquor service application, they can opt out with no comment, or provide comment on whether to recommend approval of the application, and then forward the matter to a public hearing on Tuesday, February 21 in order to receive public comment on the application.

A city staff report indicates if councillors opt out without comment, the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch will gather public input and consult with local government staff to assist the branch in considering regulatory criteria. If council members choose to provide comment on whether to recommend approval of the application, input from the public is mandatory.

Farmhouse Brewing was established in 2020 by a husband-and-wife team who had previously operated a smaller hobby farm. The brewery is located in a custom-built facility with a tasting room, heated patio and outdoor picnic area. Even before opening, they harvested their first annual crop of barley to be used in the brewery.

The beer lineup at Farmhouse consists of a stellar mix of staple core beers with some seasonal offerings mixed in from time to time. The tasting room kitchen features artisan-style pizzas and pretzels baked in a Goliath Forno Bravo oven along with appetizers and snacks.
