CHILLIWACK — Construction on a forthcoming mix of retail stores is underway near the roundabout intersection of Highway 9 and Yale Road in Popkum.

Framing for a mix of dining and shopping options at 52964 Yale Road is ongoing as contractors build a shopping complex that will eventually house a Dairy Queen restaurant, Starbucks coffee, and four other businesses that the Fraser Valley Regional District has labeled as health, beauty, cell phone, and “Iris.”

Residents of Popkum, as well as Rosedale on the eastern periphery of Chilliwack, will finally have a few more businesses to frequent thanks to the new commercial development, rather than having to drive into Chilliwack for a Blizzard at DQ or an iced coffee at Starbucks.

The project carries a construction value of $750,000, FVRD says.

The commercial development will be located just north of Petro Canada, which contains Subway, and Popkum Liquor Store. It’s also located across the street from an Esso gas station, Tim Hortons, Agency Liquor Store, and Barcelos Flame Grilled Chicken at the Highway 9 and Yale Road roundabout.
