CHILLIWACK — The Downtown Chilliwack Business Improvement Association has scheduled a merchants-only meeting for Wednesday, March 1 for tenants and business owners on safety and security.

BIA executive director Trevor McDonald says the meeting at the Coast Hotel is designed to provide up-to-date information to Chilliwack merchants and building owners.

“It is a merchant awareness meeting with guest speakers and group discussion to follow presentations,” McDonald wrote in his email to merchants Thursday (Jan. 26). “I truly hope you or someone from your team will attend. There will be a respectful question and answer period following all presentations.”

The event will consist of presentations from the City of Chilliwack, Chilliwack RCMP, Griffin Security, the BIA, and Vince Croker, general manager of Rockglass in Winnipeg.

Doors open at 6 p.m., with discussion set to begin at 6:30 p.m. sharp on March 1.

Topics include the state of security and safety in downtown Chilliwack, who to contact concerning loss prevention, updates on programs the City of Chilliwack has in place and is currently working on, BIA grant options as well as security and graffiti programs through the BIA, and what merchants and building owners can do to bolster the overall safety and security of the Chilliwack community through business security practices.

Merchants and business owners are asked to please RSVP at trevor@downtownchilliwack.com as soon as possible.
