CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack RCMP are investigating after a male suspect fired several bullets at a popular Chilliwack bakery that sells gourmet cinnamon buns.

The incident occurred at SinAmen Bun Co., located at the corner of Chilliwack Central Road and Young Road, around 10:30 p.m. Sunday night, January 15. Surveillance images reportedly show a single male suspect riding up on his bike and firing several shots at the south-facing window and a west-facing window, according to Shawn Gieselman, an employee of the small business.

The business has been advised by Mounties that they are not being targeted. Instead, it’s been described by police as a random incident.

The vandalism is estimated to be at least $400 for just one south-facing window, which was shattered by the single bullet. A west-facing window was hit by approximately three bullets causing damage in three locations.

“[Four] of our store windows were shot at with some type of gun over the weekend,” owner Claudette Krahn wrote on Facebook about the incident. “This is super upsetting and so unnecessary. If anyone has any information please PM me, or our page SinAmen Bun Co. Thank you.”

Gieselman added that it’s the first time SinAmen Bun Co. has incurred damage from bullets to its building.

It’s not known if the male suspect is older or younger, but the RCMP have personnel working swiftly on the file.

The business has already reached out to a nearby vendor to repair some of the damage.

Carstar Collision, also known as Wally’s, was also reportedly damaged by similar shots fired at its auto body business next door to SinAmen Bun Co.

Fraser Valley Today is awaiting a statement from RCMP Sgt. Krista Vrolyk.
