CHILLIWACK — The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure announced that Highway 1 east of Chilliwack, from the Highway 9 (Agassiz) juncture to Hope, is now closed.

The provincial agency made the sudden closure due to what it called rapidly deteriorating conditions on the highway.

“Highway 1 is closed from Highway 9 to Hope due to rapidly deteriorating road conditions and multiple vehicle incidents,” Drive B.C. wrote Saturday morning (Dec. 24) after 9 a.m.

There is no expected time of reopening, Emil Anderson Maintenance wrote on Twitter. Eastbound traffic can use Highway 11 in Abbotsford while westbound traffic can use Highway 9, Emil Anderson Maintenance indicated.
