CHILLIWACK — Crews from Emterra will only be able to collect scheduled garbage or recycling pickup from the valley floor today, if at all, the City of Chilliwack wrote on its website Friday morning (Dec. 23).

Due to icy conditions, the city said curbside collection will not occur on hillside areas like Chilliwack Mountain, Majuba Hill, and Riverstone Heights.

“We will continue to monitor conditions throughout the morning and may have to cease collections if conditions deteriorate. There may be other areas we are unable to service,” the city said.

Green carts and glass will not be collected from any part of Chilliwack today.

Residents are asked to clear a path from the road to curbside materials for the safety of Emterra crews.

Residents who don’t receive collection today may put out double the normal limit of materials next week; for garbage that wasn’t collected today, residents may place up to 4 bags or containers out on their next bi-weekly collection day without requiring tag-a-bag stickers.

Public works crews from the city will continue to work on the roads through the long weekend. For public works emergencies over the Christmas holidays, please call 604-792-2233.
