CHILLIWACK — Last-minute Christmas shoppers hoping to hit the Cottonwood Centre mall in Chilliwack might be up a creek without a paddle.

Cottonwood Centre reported on its Facebook page Friday morning that several of its stores are closed today due to icy road conditions following the winter storm that brought at least 15 centimetres of snow to Chilliwack and brief episodes of freezing ice to Sardis this morning.

“Cottonwood is open today until 9 p.m., however, due to the weather, some of our retailers will either not be open at all, open late to give their staff time to make their way to work safely, or closing early due to staff calling in,” the mall wrote on Facebook.

It asked patrons to be patient with all retail, restaurants and services today as any store that is open will probably be short-handed.
