CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack firefighters from Halls 1 (Cheam Avenue) and 4 (South Sumas) responded to a report of a structure fire in the 46000 block of Hope River Road Thursday night (Dec. 22) in Fairfield Island.

According to a news release from Chris Wilson, an assistant fire chief with the Chilliwack Fire Department, approximately 28 firefighters from the two halls were dispatched at approximately 9 p.m. to the scene and discovered heavy black smoke emanating from a large, detached garage structure.

Despite bitterly cold conditions, Chilliwack firefighters were able to establish a defensive attack against the blaze and swiftly brought the fire under control before it consumed the entire garage structure, let alone adjacent homes.

There were no civilian or firefighter injuries. The fire is under investigation by Chilliwack Fire Department personnel.
