CHILLIWACK — Highway 1 will be reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction between here and Abbotsford starting Wednesday night and lasting into early Thursday morning (Dec. 22).

According to a posting on social media, Drive B.C. says vehicle recovery personnel will be conducting vehicle recoveries tonight between Exit 92, Sumas Way in Abbotsford, and Highway 104, the No. 3 Road/Cultus Lake turn-off, tonight from 9 p.m. until Thursday, Dec. 22 at 5 a.m.

Drive B.C. wrote: “Left lane will be closed. Expect minor delays. The majority of the vehicle recovery work will be occurring in in the westbound direction. Please watch for and respect traffic control personnel.”

It’s been reported on social media that well over a dozen vehicles were stuck in the ditch in either direction between Chilliwack and Abbotsford, following the winter storm that arrived in the Fraser Valley late Monday night and early Tuesday morning (Dec. 20). Some people reported vehicles in the ditch to be as high as 19; that number may have increased following icy conditions throughout the day on Wednesday.
