CHILLIWACK — If you’re expecting a time-sensitive package or Christmas gift through Canada Post, you’ll need to wait just a little bit longer.

Canada Post issued a red delivery service alert at 11:29 a.m. Tuesday morning (Dec. 20) for the Fraser Valley, including Chilliwack, Abbotsford, and Mission, meaning it has suspended mail delivery for the day due to inclement weather and snow.

“A red service alert means that we are suspending delivery for the day and not sending our delivery agents out or recalling them,” Canada Post spokesperson Lisa Liu said in a news release.

The federal agency said delivery will resume once conditions improve and it’s safe to do so, stressing that the safety of our employees is its number one priority.

Customers can visit Canada Post’s Delivery service alerts webpage, which lists all active and archived alerts and updates.

“We encourage customers to clear the ice from their walkways, stairs, and driveways, to ensure safe access to the front door for both their visitors, as well as their mail carriers, when service resumes,” Canada Post wrote.

Mail delivery service has also been suspended for Metro Vancouver, South Vancouver Island, and Maple Ridge.

Customers can contact Canada Post’s Customer Service team online at canadapost.ca/support or by telephone at 1-866-607-6301 (TTY: 1-800-267-2797) for more information.
