CHILLIWACK — An active drug house on Third Avenue just two blocks east of Young Road near downtown Chilliwack was raided earlier this month by the Chilliwack RCMP, resulting in the seizure of large amounts of illegal narcotics and drug paraphernalia.

On Sunday, December 4, members of the Chilliwack RCMP Priority Target Team executed a search warrant in the 46100 block of Third Avenue in Chilliwack after observing a large quantity of foot traffic in and out of the residence.

According to a news release from RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Krista Vrolyk, police discovered approximately 15 people inside the residence once they entered the home. A search of the residence resulted in the seizure of large quantities of cocaine, methamphetamine and fentanyl along with scales, packaging and other paraphernalia. Police have not identified the quantities or furnished pictures.

Fraser Valley Today spoke with three neighbours on Third Avenue near the suspected drug house on Wednesday morning (Dec. 14). Two of the three neighbours identified the house as being near the intersection of Third Avenue and Williams Street on the south side of Third Avenue.

Chilliwack RCMP Sgt. Krista Vrolyk said the investigation remains active but doesn’t believe any charges have been sent to the B.C. Prosecution Service.

“I don’t know how long they’ve been looking at [this house],” Sgt. Vrolyk said. “Officers did observe a large amount of foot traffic when they were in the area, which kind of alerted their attention. We gathered evidence to obtain a search warrant for the controlled substances. We took the drugs off the street. It is unusual to have 15 people inside a residence; generally that’s not common to see that amount of people inside a residence.”

The drug seizure marks the second major narcotics interdiction in the past three weeks in Chilliwack.

Earlier this week, Chilliwack RCMP on Monday (Dec. 12) announced the arrest of a male and female in connection with an ongoing narcotics investigation by the Chilliwack RCMP Drug Section that produced a seizure of cocaine and fentanyl.

As part of an ongoing investigation targeting a criminal organization, the Chilliwack Drug Section had been investigating persons suspected of supplying street level drug traffickers, RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Krista Vrolyk said.

On November 30, the Drug Section arrested a male and female in Chilliwack. A search of their vehicle resulted in the seizure of approximately 300 grams of cocaine and approximately 200 grams of fentanyl.

“The Upper Fraser Valley RCMP remain committed to targeting organized crime and disrupting illegal drug trafficking in our communities,” said Inspector Jeff Bowerman, Operation Support Officer for the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment.
