CHILLIWACK — The B.C. government released its list of recipients Monday (Dec. 12) that will benefit from Community Gaming Grants, including the parent advisory council at Chilliwack Secondary School that will receive nearly $30,000.

In a news release Monday, the B.C. government unveiled its list of Chilliwack PACs and district parent advisory councils (DPACs) that will receive an aggregate sum of well over $100,000.

“Learning, fun and growth also takes place outside the regular school curriculum, and parent advisory councils are key partners in keeping students and their families engaged and connected to those opportunities for enrichment,” said Anne Kang, Minister of Municipal Affairs. “Community Gaming Grants to PACs and DPACs help fund everything from robotics and photography clubs to playground equipment and chess competitions, strengthening students’ lives and building on their school experience.”

Chilliwack Secondary PAC will receive $29,220, the news release said. Other local secondary school PACs included Sardis Secondary School PAC at $27,160, and the G.W. Graham Secondary School PAC at $26,200.

At the middle school level, Mt. Slesse PAC will receive $19,340, Vedder Middle School PAC was entitled to $18,380, Chilliwack Middle School PAC was awarded $12,620, and A.D. Rundle was the recipient of $9,540.

The Chilliwack District Parent Advisory Council, headed up by Katie Bartel, received $2,500.

More than $11 million in Community Gaming Grants will be allocated to PACs and DPACs during the 2022-23 school year. Each year, schools in the province receive funding through PACs for extracurricular activities that benefit students’ well-being and through DPACs for activities that foster parental involvement in schools, the province said in the news release.

With assistance from Community Gaming Grants, PACs can use funding to support a range of activities, such as field trips in B.C., performances, movie nights, school dances and conferences, as well as buying sports equipment. DPACs can use funding for the cost of informational and promotional materials for parents, meeting room rentals, presenter fees and travel for meetings.
