POPKUM — Residents of Popkum, as well as Rosedale on the eastern periphery of Chilliwack, will have a few more dining and shopping options thanks to a new commercial development just north of Highway 1 along Highway 9, the Agassiz-Rosedale Highway.

The Fraser Valley Regional District confirmed Tuesday (Dec. 13) in an email that a proposed plaza currently under construction at 52964 Yale Road will contain a Dairy Queen restaurant and a Starbucks, along with four other businesses.

According to Gillian Berger, communications coordinator for the FVRD, the project has a construction value of $750,000. It calls for a Dairy Queen Grill and Chill, Starbucks, and four retail units labeled as health, beauty, phone, and “Iris,” which may possibly be an optical retail store.

The commercial development will be located just north of Petro Canada, which contains Subway, and Popkum Liquor Store. It’s also kitty corner from the Esso gas station, Tim Hortons, Agency Liquor Store, and Barcelos Flame Grilled Chicken at the Highway 9 and Yale Road roundabout.
