AGASSIZ — Correctional staff at Mountain Institution west of Agassiz can’t intercept or prevent all contraband from coming into the medium-security prison, but they’re always on the lookout for anything that seems suspicious.

The Correctional Service of Canada announced in a news release yesterday (Monday, November 28) that it intercepted contraband containing illicit drugs, a cell phone, and accessories totaling $141,000.

On Sunday, November 13, as a result of the vigilance of staff members, a package containing contraband was seized on the perimeter of Mountain Institution, a medium-security federal institution.

The contraband items seized included THC, crystal methamphetamine, steroids, cigarettes, a smart phone, and accessories. The total estimated institutional value of this seizure is $141,000, CSC said.
