Aqua Fit returns to Cheam Leisure Centre

CHILLIWACK — It’s a classic case of better late than never.

For the first time since the YMCA of Greater Vancouver took over as the municipal operator of the Cheam Leisure Centre back on September 12, Aqua Fit has returned to the pool at the facility in Garrison.

The Cheam Leisure Centre posted to Facebook this past week that Aqua Fit will be held from 7:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. on Tuesday evenings. The session is dubbed “Combo Deep/Shallow Aqua Fit.”

The first session of Aqua Fit begins tonight, Nov. 29.

The long-term goal is to bring Aqua Fit sessions back to weekday mornings. Prior to the Y taking over, the Cheam Leisure Centre pool was bustling with Aqua Fit users on certain weekday mornings.

According to the Cheam Leisure Centre Facebook page, the current capacity for evening Aqua Fit is 40 swimmers maximum. A note at the bottom of the Cheam Leisure Centre Facebook page states, “Thank you for your patience while we recruit and train more lifeguards.”

Meanwhile, the days of free usage at the Cheam Leisure Centre ended Tuesday (Nov. 29) when the facility began instituting a pay-per-use or membership fee for all visitors and guests. Since September 12, the Y had only been taking people’s names and phone numbers and not charging them.
