CHILLIWACK — A powerful windstorm that swept across the southwestern B.C. overnight resulted in a series of power outages across the lower mainland including the Fraser Valley.

Nearly one thousand homes and businesses lost electricity just after midnight south of Hodgins Road and Ashwell Avenue in Chilliwack. According to B.C. Hydro, a tree had come down across power lines. Power was expected to be restored by 6 a.m.

The storm left pockets of power outages across the Fraser Valley as far east asHope, where more than 250 homes and businesses lost power overnight. More than 1,300 outages were reported in the Bridal Falls area.

The strong winds that prompted a special weather statement from Environment Canada Saturday, have since passed allowing BC Hydro crews to work on restoring the outrages. However, weather concerns remain on the horizon. Showers or wet flurries are expected through the Chilliwack region this evening (Nov. 27) with snow expected later in the week.
