CHILLIWACK — The E Division of the RCMP in British Columbia is making an ambitious, almost aggressive pitch to existing police officers who have at least three years of full-time experience by offering starting salaries of over $106,000.

The B.C. RCMP posted on Facebook Friday (Nov. 25) that it is now accepting applications for experienced officers with starting salaries of $106,576 for officers with three years of service.

It’s not known if the hiring push is related to Premier David Eby’s announcement Wednesday night (Nov. 23) that he will push for 277 RCMP officers to be hired to serve across British Columbia as part of a $230 million funding initiative.

A career with the RCMP affords experienced police officers to work in one of the 150 specializations and RCMP detachments across the country, and applicants can apply directly to the province where they want to work.

The B.C. RCMP says applicants for its Experienced Police Officer program must:

• Have a minimum of two years full-time Canadian police service employment or equivalent; [Equivalent is defined as any police service employment (full-time or part-time) that amounts to a total of 2 years’ full-time police service employment];
• Have graduated from a police training program at a recognized Canadian police training institution (Canadian Armed Forces Military Police must have successfully completed the basic police training (Qualification Level 3) after January 1, 2001);
• Meet all qualifications and requirements of a Regular Member applicant;
• Meet the minimum level for the nine (9) required general duty competencies;
• Be willing to work anywhere in British Columbia, Canada; and
• Must be actively serving or inactive within the last three years.
