CHILLIWACK — Southside Church in Chilliwack has an ambitious but generous plan to make Christmas brighter for single parents and local families who might be struggling to make ends meet this year.

Cognizant of all that’s happening with rising inflation and the financial struggles that families face here in Canada, Southside Church will conduct its annual “All is Bright” campaign this Saturday, November 26.

“This Christmas in Chilliwack, we’re committing $250,000 to make our city brighter,” the church wrote on www.southsidelife.com/bright. “No single parent should should struggle to provide Christmas food for their family. No child should wake up Christmas morning without a gift. And we’re going to do all we can to help.”

The community project is fully funded and self-supporting because the church relies on a roster of dedicated volunteers and generous donors to make the event possible.

People are invited to volunteer or donate on the church website to ensure the event reaches as many deserving families in Chilliwack as possible.

It’s one of multiple community initiatives the church in Sardis has undertaken this year, including:

* Delivering what it calls “Sunshine Boxes” to the oncology unit at Abbotsford Regional Hospital containing hundreds of dollars worth of gas and food gift cards to support kids and their families impacted by cancer and critical illness.

* Supplying fully stocked diaper bags filled with items for both mom and baby at both Chilliwack General Hospital and Abbotsford Regional Hospital.

* Equipping Sardis Doorway and When Love Hurts with food and toiletries for local moms as they work to heal and grow.

* Furnishing backpacks, food, and school supplies to support the lunch and backpack programs at Sts’Ailes Community School.

* Providing food and gas at a life renewal home and building a storage unit for the residence.
