Abbotsford Recreation Centre pool opening earlier

ABBOTSFORD — Like many other municipalities across the country, Abbotsford is suffering from a lack of staff at its aquatic facilities, including lifeguards. But there is some good news.

The City is now able to open the pool at the Abbotsford Recreation Centre (ARC) Monday through Saturday at 5:30 a.m. and will close each evening at 10 p.m. Sunday’s operating hours will be from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The pool has been operating under reduced hours because of staffing limitations.

“We were able to increase the hours of operation at Abbotsford Recreation Centre,” said Aletta Vanderheyden, Communications and Public Relations Manager for the City of Abbotsford. “We remain limited in the number of swim lessons and other aquatic programs we can provide. The City says it is continuing to actively recruit lifeguards and plans to increase capacity when staffing allows.
