CHILLIWACK — Stunningly beautiful banners commemorating the service and sacrifice of four local veterans who served in the military are set to be installed throughout downtown Chilliwack as early as Thursday (November 3).

Trevor McDonald, executive director of the Downtown Chilliwack Business Improvement Association, reported in an email sent to downtown merchants Tuesday night that the Streets of Valour project will showcase the valiant service of four local veterans who proudly served in four conflicts.

The initiative is a partnership between the BIA, City of Chilliwack, Tourism Chilliwack, Anavets 305, and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 295.

The names of the veterans are Cpl. Bryan Kormendy, Bernie McNicholl, Piper James C. Richardson, V.C., and Sgt. Jonathan Tremblay.

The banners will remain until November 15, and there are plans underway to add more banners every year.

McDonald reminded merchants and business owners in the email bulletin that Remembrance Day ceremonies will take place at both the Vedder Cenotaph (Keith Wilson and Vedder) and the downtown Cenotaph on Friday, November 11.

Downtown BIA employee Harold Zinke, a well-known face of the association who does wonders cleaning up the downtown day after day, will be placing a wreath on behalf of the BIA.
