Nothing in the forecast but Fraser Valley Regional District warns residents to be prepared for high water this fall

CHILLIWACK — The Fraser Valley Regional District (FRVD) is advising residents to be ready to deal with high water as the region moves into it’s traditional rainy season.

While officials say atmospheric rivers are more common during the fall and winter storm seasons, extreme weather similar to last November’s floods, is still rare. Just the same, the FRVD says flooding is a common, naturally occurring event in the Fraser Valley.

Those residents who live or work in low lying areas should consider moving equipment and other important possessions to high ground in preparation of a flood event.

The FRVD suggests individuals should prepare ‘grab-and-go’ bags for times when flooding can lead to evacuations. The bags should be filled with essential items including personal and insurance information.
