CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack Fire Department, RCMP, and B.C. Ambulance responded to a fire Tuesday afternoon at Munchikone Express, 45204 Vedder Mountain Road, near the turn-off roundabout for Cultus Lake.

The fire broke out sometime around 3 p.m., as at least five fire engines responded to vanquish the fire.

Firefighters could be seen attending to the front of the building where considerable damage occurred.

A home just to the west of Munchikone Express did not appear to suffer significant fire damage.

Traffic flaggers were also on scene as emergency vehicles occupied much of the roundabout.

The business had been for rent, according to a “For Rent” sign attached to the back of an Adironack chair on the business. The business has changed names and often operates during the summer selling slushies and other cold drinks or items.

A Facebook user wrote Tuesday afternoon, “Even from a distance the sound and looks of fire busting windows and flames leaping out was unnerving. Fireman [sic] worked like a well oiled machine.”
